LINDSAY KORMAN MAKES SINGING DEBUT ON PASSIONS!

Devoted Passions fans know that not only is Lindsay Korman a talented actress, she is also a professional singer. On April 17, Lindsay shares her musical gifts with viewers when her character, Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald, sings a beautiful love duet with Ethan Crane. And thats not all! The song performed by Theresa and Ethan, Kiss Me was written by Lindsay Korman, along with her songwriting partner, Mark Provart. We sat down with Lindsay for an exclusive chat about writing the song and her singing debut on Passions.

How did you feel when you first found out you were going to sing on the show?
I was really, really excited and actually I was in shock. It was like a dream come truethe opportunity to sing on the show. I never thought it would happen so soon.

What made you decide to write the song?
I had a meeting with the producers and they told me Theresa was going to sing on the show. They told me to think about a pop song or current duet that Id like to sing with Travis. I was wracking my brain for different songs. That night I went to a cabin overnight far from Los Angeles. I came back to LA really refreshed and purified and I decided to write this song. I was really inspired by the opportunity.

Did you know what kind of song you wanted to write for Ethan and Theresa?
In a weird way, I had a feel for something. I felt like I could do it because I play Theresa almost everyday. I knew I had the ability to write something completely honest. I knew I could feel it, but I wasnt sure I could express it until I called up my co-writer, Mark Provart. I had him come over at midnight that night. When he got to my house, he told me about a guitar part he had written five years earlier. He said he never knew what to do with it, but the guitar part popped into his brain and he realized this was the song. We sat on my couch and literally in fifteen minutes we had the melody and eighty percent of the words. It was exactly what I wanted for Theresa and Ethan.

What was the rest of the process to get the song together?
We had the basis of it in the first fifteen minutes but then we had to structure it and fill it in that night. It took about four hours. The next day we called our friend, Stacy, and asked him if he could help us do a demo, because he has a home studio. Mark did the guitar part and I sang. I played it for the producers and they were very happy with it. I was so excited! I took it to the next step after that. We brought an arranger on board--Donnie Kerr, another friend of ours. Mark and Donnie arranged itthey added a cello part, a bass part, and other string instruments. They changed the tempo and made it more of a ballad. Then I retracked the vocal. We burned 10 CDs and I passed them out to everyone at Passions. They said they liked it! I spoke with John Henry, the music composer on the show, and I asked him if I should have Travis come down and work with me so they could hear it as a duet. I called up Travis and he was so wonderful and excited about it! Then Jim Reilly and Lisa Hesser heard the duet version and they kept it.

When you got the final word that your song was going to be used, how did you feel?
Just excited. I felt really happy and wonderful. In a weird way, it hasnt hit me. I worked so hard and waited and waited. The day we taped it was like, Okay, were taping it. I wasnt that excited until we started doing it and then I got really nervous. After I got over the nervousness, I was just really excited. It started sinking in when I watched the tape of the rehearsal. When it airs, Im going to be really excited.

Have you and Mark written songs together before?
We havent. Wed talked about it, but this was the first time we actually sat down and did it. Since this song, weve started two more songs. Were going to continue writing together.

When you were taping, how did it feel to sing the song as Theresa rather than Lindsay?
I feel very close to Theresa and I have parallels to her. She's more of an extreme version of me. When I was writing the song, I would incorporate her into myself. When I was performing it, it was cool because I wrote it as Lindsay but got to perform it as Theresa. I got to play the parallels while performing it.

Did the song feel right in the scene?
I was worried because I didnt know how we were going to make it happen. Travis and I talked a lot about it. The dialogue in the scene was very open. We started off the song smiling and happy. And then it slowly started to progress and the words took over more.

Do you think it was a turning point for the characters?
I think it was a big, huge turning point for Ethan. Ethan is coming to realize that he cares about this person much more than just a friend. For Theresa, shes been talking about him forever, and finally shes starting to think theres some real hopenot just her fantasy. What a difference it is to feel like there is hope!
